Boarding to Uganda Without E-Visa
Uganda has announced a temporary policy allowing travelers to board flights to the country without prior e-visa approval. This measure is intended to mitigate travel disruptions caused by an ongoing upgrade to the e-immigration system. The announcement was made by the Director of the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Maj. Gen. Kasita Gowa Apollo, who operates under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On October 4, 2024, Maj. Gen. Kasita Gowa informed airlines through a press statement that travelers can now obtain their visas upon arrival in Uganda. “As a temporary solution to reduce travel disruptions, airlines have been instructed to allow passengers bound for Uganda to board without prior e-Visa approval. Visas will be issued upon arrival,” he said.
This exemption will remain in effect until the e-Visa system is fully operational. However, travelers are still required to meet all visa requirements and present the necessary documentation upon arrival.
Since implementing its automated visa system in 2016, Uganda has allowed travelers to apply for visas online via www.visas.immigration.go.ug. Previously, travelers needed a Travel Authorization or Visa Approval Letter before flying, with no visa issuance on arrival.
The DCIC’s temporary waiver of the e-visa requirement is expected to ease entry into Uganda during this period of system upgrades.
