Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be picked up by our guide who will transfer you to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali. Your guide will take you on a tour of Kigali, a new and vibrant capital city that features thriving markets and the famous mountain terrain of Rwanda. While there, you can visit the Memorial sites and centers which are places of dignified remembrance for loved ones lost in Rwanda’s genocide in 1994 and also offer a place of reflection and learning for the wider community. then reach the national park and prepare for the trek. The Volcanoes National Park ranges in altitude from 2400 km to 4,507 and is dominated by volcanoes, after which it is named. The park is famous for being the place where the American primatologist Dian Fossey conducted her pioneering studies of mountain gorilla behavior for almost 20 years. Tracking the gorilla families in the afro-montane forest can be strenuous, but it is a rare and memorable experience to visit with these giant cousins of man. Our accommodation is located in an ideal position for watching animals in their habitat, especially the endangered Rwanda Mountain Gorillas that still roam the area. You will also have the opportunity to take walks, learn more about the gorillas, and absorb the stunning surrounding landscape while enjoying the delicious cuisine of Rwanda, which is served with the renowned hospitality for which African countries are known. With a bit of luck, you may get to the gorillas, spend an hour observing their behavior, and still make it back to base in time for a late lunch. However, some gorilla families are more challenging to track down, and the trek may take a whole day, particularly when the terrain is wet and muddy. You will have lunch en route, and later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

You can choose to trek through the lush mountain forest to observe the majestic gorillas once again (additional supplement required), or opt to spend time with the charming golden monkeys. Alternatively, you could head to Gisenyi, explore the Ros Carrs orphanage and marvel at the breathtaking views of Lake Kivu. If adventure is on your mind, you can climb the Visoke or Muhavura volcanoes or hike to Dian Fossey’s final resting place. Immerse yourself in the local community by visiting the school or the community projects, or simply take a leisurely stroll to the picturesque Lake Bulera. Lunch will be served en route and you will return to your lodge for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.
