Embark on an unforgettable 2 days chimpanzee trekking to Kibale National Park Uganda adventure, where you will experience chimpanzee trekking, bird watching, and primate walks. Kibale forest National Park is a beautiful extension of the vast rainforests of central Africa and sits at an average elevation of 3,300 feet. The park is home to three large communities of chimpanzees, with each community numbering over 100 individuals. These communities have complex social structures, with dominant adult males defending the community territory against male outsiders, while females usually roam in small family groups.

During your trek, our experienced guides will listen for the chimpanzees’ pant-hooting calls to locate them, and we will quickly head to the area where they are calling from. There, we will observe them as they feed on fruiting trees, socialize with each other, lounge, and occasionally even hunt. You will also have the opportunity to participate in bird watching and primate walks, where you can spot a wide variety of bird species and other primates such as baboons and colobus monkeys. This is an incredible opportunity to experience the wonder of nature up close and personal.

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe airport and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park for Chimpanzee Trekking

Commence your 2 days chimpanzee trekking to Kibale National Park Uganda with your arrival at Entebbe airport, where you will be picked by our experienced company tour guides and receive a briefing on the upcoming safari adventure before embarking on a journey to the Kibale Forest National Park. The drive will take approximately 5 hours and will take you through traditional Ugandan villages, where you can observe locals tending to their traditional crops such as millet, sorghum, beans, and maize. The lush rolling hills of this region provide fantastic photo opportunities, and as you approach Fort Portal in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, you’ll enter Uganda’s famous tea plantation region. A carpet of green will stretch before you, creating a stunning contrast to the countryside you have just passed.

Upon arriving at Fort Portal, you’ll continue towards Kibale Forest, one of Africa’s great rainforest research reserves. Scientists have spent years studying this forest, and their research has led to the habituation of many chimpanzees to human observers. Kibale Forest is known for its diverse primate populations and is an excellent location for bird watching. Fort Portal is a rural town famous for its weaving and basketry, and you’ll have the opportunity to briefly examine some of the local art.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit a nearby forest swamp that is ideal for viewing other primates apart from chimpanzees and other forest animals. The Bigodi Wetland sanctuary, maintained by the local community, is located at the eastern edge of Kibale forest and is home to birds such as the great blue turaco, blue monkeys, baboons, otters, mongoose, bush bucks, and bush pigs, among others. You’ll return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Go for Early morning Chimpanzee Trekking, tracking over 12 Primates in Kibale National Park

Today is the last day of your 2 days chimpanzee trekking to Kibale National Park Uganda, after breakfast in the morning, we will gather at Kanyankyu River Camp at 8:00 am to participate in the most popular activity in Kibale National Park, chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzees are one of man’s closest relatives, but they are also one of the most endangered primate species, the chimpanzees to be tracked comprise of 1 group of habituated chimpanzees. During the trek, you may also see other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, bush babies, and pottos. There are also several bird species to spot, including the yellow-spotted nicator, rumped tinker bird, little greenbul, green-breasted pitta, black bee-eater, and many more. Additionally, forest elephants, bush pigs, civets, and giant forest hogs may also be seen during the walk.

After the chimpanzee tracking activity, we will depart from Kibale National Park and head back to Kampala, then continue to Entebbe Airport for your departure and end of trekking tour.
