6 Days Rwanda gorilla safari, Chimpanzees, Primates, Bird watching tours, and Nyungwe forests
The tour takes visits to Nyungwe, in South West of Rwanda, a huge afro-montane forest. With over 10000sq.km in size, Nyungwe is the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded. Visit some cultural sites en route theMuseum in Butare and the palace at Nyanza.
Visit Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the north of Rwanda where about 300 mountain gorillas live. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local
DAY 1: Arrival – Kanombe Airport
On arrival at Kinombe airport, connect to the hotel two kilometers from town. Relax and take lunch. Then take an enjoyable tour to the city. Take a stopover at the genocide memorial sites and proceed to other places of interest. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 2: Kigali – Parc National des Volcans (PNV)
Morning after breakfast, drive to the park for a briefing on the gorilla sanctuary. The whole day is dedicated to tracking, because it hard to predict how long it may take you to reach a group of gorillas. It’s advisable to carry packed lunch, which can be arranged with your hotel the night before. For conservation purposes, time spent with the gorillas is only one hour and it is advisable to carry only non-flash cameras. After seeing the gorillas, return to your hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: Kigali – Akagera National Park
Drive to Akagera National Park for an afternoon game drive, to see many night birds and animals. After this, commute back for dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 4: Akagera – Nyungwe Forest
Take early breakfast, then head for a morning game drive for a close encounter with animals such as zebras, several antelope species and giraffes. Later drive out of the park, stopping for lunch at Kigali town and continuing to Nyungwe Forest. This forest boasts many primate species like, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, the wild chimpanzees and many others. Therefore a night walk this evening in search of the shy forest dwellers is rewarding and worthwhile. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 5: Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast there will be a primate walk in search of the primates accompanied by park rangers and trained guides. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 6: Departure
Take an early morning breakfast before leaving for Kigali airport. One can visit the craft villages and shop around at other places with the help of the driver/ guide to buy soveinirs but this will depend on your time of departure. Leave for the airport in plenty of time for your flight.
